  • Rep. Adam Schiff slammed Rep. Paul Gosar in an interview with The View on Tuesday.
  • Schiff said Gosar has "no business being in Congress."
  • Gosar tweeted an edited anime clip that shows him killing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff on Tuesday ripped into Republican Rep. Paul Gosar after Gossar tweeted an edited animated video depicting him killing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and swinging swords at President Joe Biden.

"First of all, he has no business being in Congress. He should have never been elected. He doesn't belong there," Schiff said of Gosar in an interview with The View.

"Sadly, the Republican conference is now characterized by numerous kooks and dangerous cranks, of which he is one," Schiff continued.

Schiff's comments came in response to Gosar's tweet on Sunday, in which he shared an altered video of the opening credits of a Japanese animated series called "Attack on Titan." In the clip, Gosar's face is edited over a character that kills another character with Ocasio-Cortez's face and swings two swords at a character superimposed with Biden's face.

Gosar captioned the 90-second video: "Any anime fans out there?"

Twitter has flagged Gosar's tweet as "hateful conduct" but it has been not removed from the site.

Several House Democrats, including Ocasio-Cortez, have called out the video. The New York congresswoman slammed Gosar in a tweet on Monday evening as "a creepy member" she works with who "shared a fantasy video of him killing me."

"And he'll face no consequences bc @GOPLeader cheers him on with excuses," Ocasio-Cortez added, tagging House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who has previously protected House Republicans despite pressure to punish them over their actions.

Earlier this year, Gosar was condemned after he was linked to white nationalist Nick Fuentes. Although the two appeared at the same event in February, and Gosar was pictured on a flyer of a fundraiser by Fuentes' organization in June, Gosar denied the ties, and McCarthy dismissed the matter.

Some of Gosar's other controversies include his repeated false claims about the 2020 election and his comments on the January 6 insurrection. Gosar received criticism from both sides of the aisle after he blamed the death of rioter Ashli Babbitt on Capitol Police.

Schiff weighed in on House Republicans' lack of response to Gosar's recent tweet, noting that some House Republicans are reportedly trying to reprimand their 13 GOP colleagues who voted for Biden's bipartisan infrastructure bill. "Gosar creates this video glorifying violence against one of our colleagues who's already been the subject of death threats, and that's perfectly OK," he said.

"They are repeatedly glorifying violence," Schiff added.

Spokespeople for Gosar and Ocasio-Cortez did not immediately return Insider's requests for comment.
